It is with great pleasure that we would like to announce the second event of this year´s talk series on "Grassroots Movements and Civil Society".
The two feminist activists Diana Pinto from Portugal and Emily Galea from Malta will offer us some insights into their work at the upcoming online panel talk entitled “Reproductive (In)justices: Activism for Abortion Rights”.
Diana Pinto is a historian and women's rights activist. She is the president of Liga Feminista do Porto, a non-profit feminist association fighting for female emancipation, based in Porto. Diana also led the first and largest campaign to extend the legal deadline for access to abortion in Portugal. Since July 2021, she has been a project officer at the Portuguese Platform for Women's Rights, which in turn is a member of the European Women's Lobby, Europe's largest umbrella network for women's rights associations.
Emily Galea is a writer and feminist activist in Malta, the country with the most restrictive abortion legislation in the European Union. She holds a master of arts in Gender, Society & Culture as well as a master in Teaching and Learning from the University of Malta. Emily has been the Vice-President of Young Progressive Beings (Malta’s first pro-choice youth group) and Project Co-lead of the Dear Decision Makers campaign - a story-telling campaign for reproductive rights in Malta. Last year, Emily joined the Women’s Rights Foundation (WRF) - an organisation committed to informing, educating and empowering women concerning their legal rights.
The talk will take place on Wednesday, May 25 at 6PM (CET) on Zoom.
